Yesterday (3/17) was a good day.
For the first time in many months, the clouds decided to part and let a little sunshine through and provide much-needed solace and clarity for us.
After a good bit of back-and-forth with my current employer and having one foot out the door to another company, a counter-offer came in. It didn't match my other offer (was about 5k short), but with the disparity in the cost of medical/dental benefits and my annual bonus and comp adjustment, I'm going to be coming out ahead.
Dani is still waiting on word about the next steps with a potential offer with her parent company out in California. The first conversation went really well and she comes highly-recommended by her coworkers. The President of the company wrote a stellar letter of recommendation and introduction to his peers out west. So, it's our hope that she'll have something in-hand here in the next couple of weeks.
On the tail end of my conversation about compensation, our Realtor called to say that one of our offers had been accepted. Talk about a load of anxiety and worry off your shoulders.
The house itself isn't perfect. There's some things that we'd definitely like to change. Carpet is brown (brown, right??), there's not as much counter space as we wanted, and the back yard is absolutely ugly af. BUT, those are all little things that we can work on as we get settled-in.
It had been one of our main worries; knowing that our lease was up and that we'd have to move with no actual destination in-sight. So, we couldn't arrange or begin to arrange moving or timelines or get accurate financials for anything.
Now, we have (tentatively) an address. We have an ACTUAL place that we can tell movers to go to. We have a place to forward mail to (when the time comes). We'll have a roof over our heads and finally build up some equity.
And now for the big detail: 25-day escrow. So, we may be back in California by the end of April or start of May. It's about a month sooner than we'd planned. We're kicking ourselves into high gear to get rid of the stuff we don't need/use so that we're taking the stuff that needs to be taken.
All in all, the next several weeks are going to be really busy and probably more hectic than we'd planned because of the condensed time frame of everything.
Wish us luck.
