More adventures

The wedding is done with.

Honeymoon was fantastic and we got to drive all over and see friends, family, and penguins.

So, what now?

Well, life pretty much goes back to normal - or whatever passes as normal anymore. Dani and I came back to work after some time off and got back to the grind of day-to-day life.

Dani had her work anniversary a week or so ago. She has been the steadfast beacon of dedication for her company. All through 2020 and into this year, she went (and continues to go) into the office every morning. Most times in the past year and a half, she's largely been one of the few souls on-site to keep trudging on. It's my hope that she'll be recognized for this during her Performance Review. If anyone deserves a raise and some accolades, she does.

Her company deemed her to be essential to the continued function of the business. I can't begin to articulate how proud of a husband I am. She's strong and resilient and her positivity shines around her. If there are promotions to be had for her role, I really hope that it comes to her.

Things for me continue much in the way that they did before the wedding. I work from home and have been for the better part of almost three years. It's pretty isolating, but it's also nice to be able to just get up in the morning, get my coffee, and come into my office to work.

For those who don't really know what I do, other than "work with computers" - I work for a large international consultancy firm in the Midwest's Data Protection practice. Specifically, much of my day is consumed in designing and helping our clients realize value in their technology stacks, especially where data protection is concerned.

Our fiscal year runs from September until the end of August with our midyear being sometime around March. During that time, I was promoted. I am currently up for promotion again and should hopefully know the outcomes of that towards the end of this month or sometime in early-to-mid November. From what I've been told from leadership, it's long overdue. Our feedback/promotion process is a little different than most organizations, but the outcome of my case for going up another level met with no pushback and only support. So, it's my hope that I'll get up to the next step and that'll allow us to pay off some bills faster and begin to work towards the next things on the horizon.

Dani and I are both on the same page about wanting to start a family of our own. Something that we've identified as a roadblock is that our lease is up next year (I think?). We're not exactly sure where we would like to go from here. We've discussed staying here for another couple of years to save up for a house and moving has definitely been on the horizon. Which brings us to starting a family in the middle of a potential cross-country move.

I can't begin to say that I have any experience traveling cross-country with an infant. But, the notion isn't really appealing even in lieu of that. But, I'm not getting any younger and neither is my lovely wife.

In closing this entry out, we've got a lot of stuff ahead of us. Much like everyone else, we'll do the best we can. My intent with this site is that it would start off as something to provide information about our wedding and then move onto highlight some of the other big things in our (now married) lives.

Stay tuned for whatever life brings us next.
