Turning the page to 2023

2023 has officially begun.

It's been awhile since the last update, so here's what's happened.

After a long fight with cancer, we lost my Mom at the beginning of October. I still have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, she's not hurting anymore - which, is a blessing considering that the last three decades or so were spent in a considerable amount of physical pain. But, I'm sad that she's gone.

The holidays were, obviously, difficult. It was my first birthday without her being around. First Thanksgiving without her there. First Christmas and New Years were also dimmed a bit because of her absence.

Everyone is doing the best they can to continue on without my Mom around.

Dani is doing okay. She was, unfortunately, sick over Christmas. But, she's on the mend now and sounding a little less congested each day. It was her first year where her holidays were spent away from Minnesota and the rest of her family, so I know it's taken a lot out of her to not be near them during this time of year.

Luckily, she's had new friends here and a friend from Minnesota visit. Even so, it's difficult and I'm hoping that eventually more folks will be out to visit.

The house is the house. As time goes on, we find little things here and there that we wanna improve on. Namely the front and back yards, which are utterly abysmal in their appearance. We're hoping that we'll be able to start working on them when the weather improves a bit (it's been raining and we can't do much in the rain). Maybe in a couple more months, we'll have the front yard cleaned up sufficiently and be able to get a patio cover in the back yard so that we can set up the grill we got as a housewarming present.

It's going to be an interesting year filled with even more firsts. So here's to hoping things get better for everyone and lead to a much brighter new year.
